We are very proud of St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Preschool. Located in a home-like, newly renovated facility, the student/teacher ratio is smaller than most preschools (5:1), and our hands-on, high quality program facilitates learning through discovery, play, and project-based investigations. Teaching is individualized to provide a variety of creative and language rich experiences. This small, nurturing learning environment stresses God’s love for each child, and experiences are designed to build confidence, character, and a passion for learning.
Our mission is to develop compassionate and confident lifelong learners. We believe that God’s love is foundational for developing a nurturing learning environment, and that preschoolers learn best through play, exploration, and discovery. Also, we believe that family teacher relationships support the growth of the whole child. We celebrate each child’s individual talents and unique learning styles.
Our curriculum is aligned with the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS), and we have implementedThe Creative Curriculum, a comprehensive research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. Children are prepared for kindergarten with a focus on critical domains of development (physical/motor, social/emotional, language, literacy, cognitive, mathematics, science, social studies, creative arts). Spiritual values and themes align with learning goals and the curriculum, and celebrations include music, worship, and simple prayers. Fr. Craig provides a weekly chapel experience for the children.
This year, our 42nd year, we will begin the school year with simple themes about self and family. In September students will learn about themselves, their families, and their school; they will also learn about making friends and how to be a good friend.
This year we are beginning with a part-time program, although we are planning to expand to include a daycare option This is a reported need in the area. Finally, we plan to raise funds in support of scholarships for some children who may not have the opportunity to attend such a program as ours.
Rebecca Bouchard is the Director and Lead Teacher. There are three dynamic teaching assistants, Eileen Po-Chedley, Wendy Conley, and Sandy Gauvin who guide our curriculum and philosophy through direct instruction, observation, hands-on experiences, and love. This staff has been with the preschool for as long as twelve years. Fr. Craig is the administrator along with additional administrative support provided by Alison Bateson-Toupin.
Open enrollment is ongoing; please call 401-783-1611 for more information.
See Fr. Craig if you are interested in supporting a scholarship or a partial scholarship for a child in need.
