Welcome!
We are glad you have decided to visit our website today.
At St. Peter’s we take the words of St. Benedict from over 1000 years ago seriously, “Let all guests be received as Christ.” When anyone walks through our doors, whether it be for worship on Sunday morning, as a guest or volunteer at the Community Market on Friday afternoons, or as part of our Preschool family, they are fully welcomed as part of our community and invited to experience the unconditional love of God as expressed through our fellowship.
St. Peter’s has been a Christian center of Anglican worship and spirituality in the South Pier of Narragansett since 1869. We take pride in our Rhode Island and Episcopal heritage. Our worship is both contemporary and anchored in the transitions of our church as outlined in The Book of Common Prayer. We enjoy a proud and varied musical tradition as part of our weekly worship, encompassing the best of several centuries of sacred music up to the present day.
St. Peter’s has sought and served the spiritual and physical needs of South County through faith, service and community -
St. Peter’s serves as a physical beacon of faith. It is a place where the hope of the Kingdom is expressed through our liturgy. It is a place to come to in times of crisis as we seek divine solace through the peacefulness of our gardens and the timeless assurance of our worship and music programs.
St. Peter’s is a place of service. Our Service is our Community Market to the myriad of other ways our faith has inspired our members to share their time and talent with other local community organizations.
St. Peter’s is also a place of community. We are first and foremost a worshipping community who gathers every Sunday to pray for the state of the world and to be assured of God’s constant and unfailing love for us through the sacrament of the Eucharist. We are also a community who supports each other in good times and bad, but most of all, in our ongoing journeys with God. We are a community of hope and dignity as well for the families and individuals who use the Community Market each week and for those who seek continued sobriety through the many AA type groups that meet here. For them, our walls are a safe haven to share their failures and find confidence in their success.
St. Peter’s is also a community of transformative action. We heed the words of Christ that tell us when we offer compassion and care to those in need, we are serving Him. For over twenty years, St. Peter’s has worked towards eliminating food insecurity in South County either through our food pantry or now through our Friday afternoon Community Market. The Market is the only volunteer-run food distribution site in South County that offers nutritious food assistance every week to anyone who walks through our doors, no questions asked.
And St. Peter’s Preschool is a place where young children grow in the joy and context of God’s unconditional love, under the supervision of our educational staff. We are truly grateful for our fully accredited preschool environment where children can discover the world around them through play and guided interaction.
We hope as you further explore our website you will see for yourself that St. Peter’s is a community who lives a faith in the transformative love of Jesus Christ. We hope you will choose to be part of this love we share, with each other and within our surrounding community.
